On Sunday 16th September Alex Metcalf, aka the Tree Listener, as seen on BBC One’s My Passion for Trees with Judi Dench, will be at TV gardener Toby Buckland’s Harvest Festival at Forde Abbey, Chard in Somerset. Alex is hooking up to one of Forde Abbey’s magnificent trees with his sensitive microphones so visitors can hear the inner rumblings of the tree at work.
Festival-goers can don a pair of Alex’s headphones and hear the rumble of the tree moving and the popping of the water as it mixes with air on its way up through the xylem tubes just behind the bark, the very life of the tree surging up from the roots towards the leaves.
