Toby Buckland – Festival Director

A lifelong gardener a well-known face of TV gardening and popular host to the two-day festivals, Toby’s gardening career started in his home county of Devon at a local rose nursery. Best known for presenting BBC Gardeners’ World, he is a regular on Gardeners Question Time, presented BBC’s Great British Garden Revival and RHS Chelsea Flowershow. Toby writes regularly for the Daily Telegraph, Amateur Gardening and has penned five gardening books, including Flowers: Planning & Planting for Year-Round Colour. Toby presents the gardening show on BBC Radio Devon every Sunday morning from 9am to midday.

Lisa Buckland – Organising Director

Lisa is a qualified gardener and gardening journalist, and was campaigns writer for Gardening Which? and contributing gardens editor for House Beautiful. TV credits include BBC’s Garden Magic and Channel 4’s Real Gardens. She was a trustee for the charity Perennial (formerly the Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society) which helps gardeners in time of financial need for eight years. Lisa ran the Plant Centre at Powderham Castle which she co-owned with Toby for five years and is now Devon editor for Muddy Stilettos, the urban guide to the countryside.

Alan Lewis – Festival Director

Alan Lewis owns the Country Gardener series of magazines throughout the South West, Hampshire and the Cotswolds. A former newspaper and magazine editor, he was managing director of Archant Specialist Magazines before starting his own Somerset based publishing business. His experience at running exhibitions and events includes a period in charge of one of the UK’s largest specialist exhibitions businesses.

Gabrielle Jackson – Creative Director

Gabrielle’s career has largely been in television working for BBC TV, Granada TV and independent TV companies in the South West making food programmes.

Working with chefs Michael Caines, Heston Blumenthal, Gary Rhodes and many others, she also has a keen interest in growing food – particularly unusual vegetables. More recently she has been involved in organising festivals, putting together varied programmes of lectures and demonstrations and also has been much involved in selling and marketing South West events. “Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival at Powderham Castle is a wonderful opportunity for growers in the South West to show the rest of the country just what we have down here.  Visitors will be treated to a fabulous garden festival in a beautiful place  –  a premier event in a stunning location.”
