Carnivorous plants make their debut at the festival!

There’s the chance to step into the captivating world of carnivorous plants at the festival when Devon nursery Sarracenia Nurseries exhibit their wonderful array of colourful and thrilling plants for the first time at Powderham.

Sarracenia pitcher plants have a passionate and growing following among gardeners and the new Devon nursery at Winkleigh run by Christopher Vigor are keen for festival visitors to see and enjoy their wide range of very spectacular plants. Collecting and enjoying carnivorous plants has grown enormously in recent years with gardeners able to enjoy the wide range of colours and varieties. Native to North America, these carnivorous plants thrive in nutrient-poor bogs, where they have evolved to lure insects as an alternative source of nitrogen. Their tall, tubular leaves form elegant pitchers streaked with reds, greens, and purples—colours that visually entice curious insects from afar.

This combination of beauty, deception, and efficiency makes sarracenia pitcher plants endlessly fascinating. They are living examples of evolutionary creativity, turning attraction into survival with remarkable elegance.

They represent an exciting first at the festival.
